Geology

durdledoorLiving in the midst of the Jurassic Heritage Coast gives enormous scope for studying Geology. Apart from learning about local geological wonders the group studies geological features further afield.

Norman Tapster, the Group Leader, has travelled in Iceland and in France where the spectacular landscapes have been shaped by past volcanic activity.

The group has also studied Continental Drift and the formation of mountain chains as well the structure of the Earth’s interior.

Geologically themed walks are arranged to points along the coastline stretching from Poole in the east to Beer and Seaton in the west as well as inland. Please click here to see the timetable of walks.

Meeting are held on the first and third Wednesdays on most month - please refer to the Timetable page for dates.
