Country Walks are for the enjoyment of those taking part. The intention is to have one walk of each type in most months and for those wanting the exercise there is no reason why they should not take part in both walks.

Walks take place on no specific day each month. Many members have regular meetings with other groups and to provide them with some flexibility having walks on different days allows those members to at least take part in some of the walks.

Route outlines, and dates will be included on the web site and announced at the First Monday meeting. Unless otherwise noted start times are 10.00 am at the location described. Further details of both types of walk can be obtained from me.

Interesting Ambles

These do not exceed three miles in length and have a theme, usually based on a geological or industrial archaeological subject. Dorset is a very good county in both these regards having ample examples of both topics.

These walks are usually led by Norman Tapster and take not more than two hours.

Country Capers

These walks are usually between four and seven miles. I plan to explore some of the many footpaths that crisscross the county and the walks are intended to provide visual succour. Most are planned to take about three hours.

Members taking part in walks must accept that they are responsible for their own personal well being and safety while on the walk. Inclement weather, natural ground conditions and the wild animals of Dorset may be encountered on any of the walks. Those participating are responsible for providing themselves with and utilising suitable clothing, footwear and any personal equipment they require. All participants will be asked to sign a disclaimer before setting out.

The programme is constantly being developed in the light of experience and the wishes of those who take part.
